University of Portland junior midfielder Erin Misaki was one of 18 players named to the U.S. U-21 women's national team, as announced by head coach Jerry Smith. The U-21 team will participate later this month in Norway's Nordic Cup, the top competition in the world for U-21 women. Incoming Pilot freshman Christine Sinclair is on Canada's roster for the Nordic Cup tournament, setting up a possible meeting in the medal round. Misaki, the co-Player of the Year in the West Coast Conference last season and an all-American, started and played the entire match Thursday in a U.S. tune-up contest against the W-League's Boston Renegades. The U.S. opens the 2001 Nordic Cup tournament against Iceland on July 25, then faces Denmark on July 27, and finish first-round play against Germany on July 29. The Americans will then play a placement match in the medal round on July 31. Canada, Finland, Sweden and Norway make up the other group. The group winners will play for the championship.
