No. 2 Seed Portland Moves into Third Round as San Diego's Season Ends
Nov. 14, 2008
No. 2 seed Portland and 16th ranked San Diego hoped to keep their journey to the College Cup alive Sunday, as both had second round matchups. The Pilots hosted the Texas Longhorns, while the Toreros were scheduled to play at UCLA. The Pilots posted added another shutout to their list of victories this season, getting goals from their top two scorers in freshman Danielle Foxhoven and sophomore Sophie Schmidt in a 2-0 victory. The win extended Portland's winning streak to 18, building upon a program record. The Pilots will likely host and face James Madison on November 22 at 7:00 PM. Unfortunately, No. 16 San Diego was unable to play its game due to poor air quality in the greater Los Angeles area and was forced to play its game Monday. The Toreros ended up being their own worst enemy as the only goal of the game came from a deflection off a San Diego defender to give the Bruins the win.
