Oct. 13 -- Gonzaga University's men's and women's crew teams opened the fall season with a win over Pacific Lutheran University Saturday morning on the Spokane River near Upriver Dam.
The Bulldog men's varsity eight covered the 5,000-meter course in 15:46, while the Gonzaga women won in 17:57. The Gonzaga women's varsity four also rowed to victory, while PLU's lone win of the day came in the men's varsity four in 18:38 while Gonzaga finished second in 19:22.
The race was a timed event rather than a straight dual format, boats going off in intervals and overall time determing the placings.
The next action for the Bulldogs will be Oct. 20 against Washington State University in a dual regatta on the Spokane River course.
