USRowing announced its 2001 National Team roster this past Saturday, and USD All-American Ali Cox was selected as one of its members. The team will compete at the upcoming 2001 FISA World Rowing Championships August 19-26 in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Cox, who graduated this past spring from USD, has been training with Princeton TC and will participate in the women‚s four event. She was a three-time All-WCC rower in her years as a Torero.

The National Team roster includes nine 2000 Olympians and 48 first-time senior national team members. The women‚s quadruple sculls crew of Sarah Jones, Laura Rauchfuss, Carol Skricki, and Hilary Gehman brings the most experience as Jones, Skricki and Gehman all competed at the 2000 Olympics. The men‚s four includes two former Olympians in Eric Mueller and Mike Wherley. Mueller is the only two-time Olympian on the squad.

The men's and women's eights are young and talented, with both crews averaging 23 years of age. The men's eight includes one veteran in Bryan Volpenhein. Volpenhein, who will turn just 25 in Switzerland, is a two-time world champion in the event and rowed in the eight in Sydney. The women's eight also has one veteran in Wendy Wilbur. Wilbur is a five-time national team member and has won two medals at the world championships.

Twenty-four events will be contested at this year's world championships with the U.S. racing in 23. Last year, the U.S. won three medals at the Olympics and four at the non-Olympic world championships where the non-Olympic events are contested.
