Gonzaga University's women's varsity 8 crew defeated the University of California-Davis, the top-ranked NCAA Division II squad, by 8 seconds on Saturday, April 14, in a dual race on Silver Lake.

The Gonzaga women posted the only victory of the day in the six-race program, finishing in 6:56.9 to the 7:08.2 of the Aggies. The women's varsity 8 consisted of stroke Nickie Lustig, Bonnie Corbin, Maria Bokulich, Vicki Olson, Breah Niemiec, Bridget Troy, Alexis Skipitis, Julie Yates and coxswain Courtney Haase.

"Davis is always a good test for us," head coach Glenn Putyrae said. "We've split the last couple of years. They gave us everything we wanted in the first 1,000 meters."

UC-Davis is the two-time defending NCAA Division II champion.
