In the women's novice eight race, the Gaels took the lead right from the start to take a commanding lead. The Gaels had an impressive 20 second gap between them and the remaining six boats in the race. The novice eight was stroked by Cheryl Thompson.
In the women's novice four race the team battled for first all the way down the course with Seattle Pacific and Willamette University. In a very hard fought battle Seattle Pacific cranked up the rate in the last 500 meters to take the lead to finish first with Willamette edging out Saint Mary's for second, Seattle University finishingin fourth and Humboldt State taking fifth.
In the Varsity races the Gaels fought hard all day. With the Varsity four, the Gaels qualified in their heat for the finals. Just as in the Novice Four race the Varsity four was battling it out for first in the first 1000 meters with Willamette, Seattle Pacific and Humboldt State. As they crossed the 1000, Willamette jumped out in the lead and the pack started spreading out with Seattle in sceond and Humboldt and Saint Mary's going at it for third. When the boats crossed the line it was Willamette in first, Seattle Pacific in second, Humboldt taking third, Saint Mary's fourth, Seattle University in fifth and Cal Maritime in sixth.
In the Varsity Eight race the team was right it with the six boat race. With five of the teams crossing the 1000 tied it was anyone's race. The Gaels were going stroke for stroke with the pack when Pacific Lutheran took the lead with about 800 meters to go. Then the pack started spreading out and when the all crossed the line it was PLU taking first, Seattle Pacific in second, Willamette in third, Saint Mary's in fourth, Humboldt State (A) in fifth and Humboldt State B) in sixth.
Drake University comes to town this weekend to take on the Gaels along with Humboldt State, Mills College, and Cal.
