The University of San Diego womens rowing squad won the 2001 Berg Cup in the Womens Varsity 8 race on Saturday, March 24th. The 2001 Berg Cup featured the University of San Diego, UC Irvine, UCLA, Chapman and host Orange Coast College. The USD Womens Varsity 8 (Berg Cup) Championship boat finished with a top time of 6:56.6 and consisted of junior Kim Harding (coxswain), senior Ali Cox (stroke), sophomore Kim Cupini (7), junior Brianna Leissoo (6), junior Allison Wesbey (5), sophomore Kristen Watson (4), freshman Karen Ann Leigh (3), senior Ginger Forner and junior Laura Duryea (bow). The 2001 Berg Cup Championship marks USD second Berg Cup title. San Diegos Novice 8 A boat placed third (7:12.7) in their 2000 meter race. The Torero novice team featured freshman Kristi Hamada (coxswain), sophomore Kara Taniguchi (stroke), freshman Kelsey Watters (7), freshman Ali Hinga (6), freshman Lisa Sofio (5), freshman Lindsay Tingstrom (4), freshman Stephanie Johnson (3), freshman Carisa Verdoia (2) and Lindsey Johnson (bow).
