The women's varsity eight matchup at the Fawley Cup against Washington State University Saturday on Silver Lake was won by WSU's varsity, but a protest was filed by WSU's junior varsity boat against Gonzaga for impeding. Gonzaga head coach Glenn Putyrae said neither he nor WSU coach Tammy Crawford was able to detect the infraction from their location on the course. Putyrae said the Gonzaga varsity and the WSU JV will re-race. The race is used to determine qualification for the Opening Day Regattta later this spring hosted by the University of Washington.

"WSU's varsity clearly beat us, but WSU's second boat made the claim that we were impeding," Putyrae said. "Neither Tammy or I, who were on the course at the time, noticed any irregularities so we decided to re-race those two boats."

Gonzaga captured six of the nine races, not including the women's varsity eight. In addition to the men's varisty eight, the Bulldog men's frashman eight, women's varsity four, women's novice eight, men's freshman four and men's second freshman four posted victories.

WSU won the women's second eight, men's varsity four and women's third eight.
