May 11-Gonzaga's women's varsity crew advanced to the Grand Final race at the 00 Avaya Collegiate Championships after winning their heat on Saturday afternoon at Lake Mercer in Princeton, New Jersey. The men's varsity eight finished fifth in their heat race and will compete in Sunday's Third Final.lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; Gonzaga's women covered the ,000 meter course in 6:49.11 to hold off Ithaca for first place in their heat. New Hampshire and Binghamtom battled for third and fourth while Wellesley and Worcester Poly finished fifth and sixth. Gonzaga now advances to the Avaya Grand Final for the second consecutive year. Last year the Bulldogs finished third in the event when it was held at Lake Lanier outside of Atlanta. GU's women's varsity eight crew consisted of coxswain Courtney Haase, Nicole Lustig, Molly Gulsvig, Cynthia Savoca, Breah Neimiec, Jennie Gilpin, Maria Bokulich, Bridget Troy and Christine McKeown.lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; Also advancing to Sunday's women's varsity eight Grand Final were Holy Cross, Williams, Smith and Dayton. Williams won the 001 event with Ithaca placing second and the Bulldogs third.lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; Gonzaga's varsity men struggled out the gate and finished fifth in their heat race to miss the semifinals and advance only to Sunday's Third Final. Gonzaga covered the course in 6:0.8 finishing ahead of New Hampshire which also moved into the Third Final. Marist won the heat followed by Colgate, Ohio State and Massachusetts. Gonzaga's varsity men's crew consisted of coxswain Mara Oblak, Mark Voorhees, Mike Baisch, Brad Hughes, Jeff Kiely, Dave Johnson, Justin Toenes, Nat Hopper, and Nathan Wilson. lt;Pgt;
