May 5-The Loyola Marymount women's rowing team captured the WIRA varsity eight championship with a time of 6:46.3, while Gonzaga took home second place with a time of 6:49.1 and San Diego finished in 6:49.7 to claim third place.

The Lions won convincingly over defending champion Gonzaga, who followed at 6:49.1 with the University of San Diego placing third with a time of 6:49.7. The victory for LMU avenges a loss to both the Zags and USD in Friday's WCC Championship. Rounding out the top 6 were Sacramento State at 6:57.4, followed by Willamette at 7:00.8, and San Diego State crossing in 7:04.5.

LMU grabbed the gold by getting off to a strong start and pulling away throughout. The stage was set for Sunday's final after the top three seeds all won their respective heats on Saturday. The WIRA WV8 was contested between a total of nineteen schools.

Gonzaga did taste victory Sunday as the second varsity eight and novice four each captured the Grand Final.

The second varsity eight came home in 7:05.3 to beat Sacramento State by a boat length, the Hornets finishing in 7:10.9. San Diego State University was third in 7:12.9. Gonzaga's boat was comprised of coxswain Courtney Serpa, Kari Durgan, Carolyn Schepper, Joni Goodman, Jessica Nestor, Jenni Cooper, Hilda Morones, Andrea Genord and Alison Cushman.

The novice four slipped ahead of Pacific Lutheran University by 1.2 seconds to claim the victory in 7:40.7 to the Lutes 7:41.9. The top two finishers were well ahead of third place University of Puget Sound (7:56.2). The Gonzaga boat consisted of coxswain Melissa Hayes, Brianna Morin, Sarah Allison, Mariah Smith-Miloff and Kate Goudreau.

Haase, Savoca and Neimiec were named to the All-WIRA first team, while Serpa was a second-team selection.

LMU's champion lineup consisted of: coxswain Blake Boyer; stroke seat Caitlin McClain; seven Malin Gustavsson; six Vanessa Glendenning; five Angela Tanner; four Lot Keijzer; three Gemma Gaudio; two Beth Henderson; and bow seat Sarah Daum.

Boyer, McClain, and Glendenning were named to the WIRA All-Association First Team. Head Coach Patrick Kelly was named WIRA's female team Coach of the Year.
