Dawn Baker and Shelley Sheetz have been hired as assistant women's basketball coaches at the University of San Diego, it was announced by Tom Iannacone, Director of Athletics. Baker and Sheetz will join Kathy Marpe's staff and replace coaches Nadine Mastroleo and Nicole Anderson. Mastroleo, who has been with the program the past three years, is returning to USD to pursue graduate school full-time, and Anderson is returning to nearby Francis Parker High School to teach full-time. Dawn Baker returns to the WCC after coaching this past year in Germany where she was the head women's basketball coach for a professional team in Leipzig. Prior to her overseas stint she was assistant coach at the University of Portland for five seasons (1995-2000). At Portland she participated in all administrative, recruiting and instructing aspects for the Pilots division I program that went 95-50 during her tenure. While earning her B.A. in History at the University of San Francicso, she played two years for the Lady Dons between 1992-94, earning Honorable Mention All-WCC honors. During her time at the University of Portland, she earned her M.S. degree in College Student Personnel (1998). Shelley Sheetz, a former All-American and Big 8 Female Athlete of the Year, was an assistant coach at Washington State University in 1999-2000. Prior to that she played professional basketball in the ABL for the Portland Power (1998) and Colorado Xplosion (1996-98). More recently she was the head coach for the AAU Girls Basketball, Grades 5-8. She earned her B.A. in Sociology in 1995 from the University of Colorado. During her senior season (1994-95), she was selected a Kodak All-American; Associated Press First Team All-American, and a Naismith Player of the Year finalist.
