SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- St. Mary's women's basketball team will face Texas in the first round of the 2001 NCAA Division I Championship, as announced by the NCAA on Sunday afternoon.

The Gaels, 25-5, have been announced as the No. 9 seed in the Mideast Regional. They will face the 19-12 Texas Longhorns, a No. 8 seed, on the campus of the University of Tennessee on Friday, March 16. Tennessee plays #16-seed Austin Peay in the site's other first-round matchup. The bracket's second round game, also in Knoxville, is set for Sunday, March 18.
