Feb 19- Santa Clara earned its second series sweep of the season with an 8-6 win over San Diego at the Leavey Center, while visiting Saint Mary's topped San Francisco 74-66 at Memorial Gym

Freshman guard Ashley Graham missed a double-double by one assist to lead the Broncos, as her 13-point, 9-assist effort helps to improve the Broncos' record to 8-16, 4-7. The Toreros were led by Marta Menuez' 13 points and seven rebounds, but see their record fall to 6-18, 1-10. lt;pgt; The win marked the second series sweep for the Broncos this season, as Santa Clara's other two conference wins are over San Francisco. The Broncos shot 7 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range. Senior guard Whitney Sutak came off the bench and contributed 14 points and six assists as the Broncos netted a season-high 4 assists and 16 steals on the night. lt;pgt; Nine minutes into the game, Quinn Thomas dove at midcourt for a steal, which Jenni Gottschalk collected and found Sutak on the fast break. Sutak's lay-up made it 0-8 Broncos, forcing San Diego head coach Kathy Marpe to call her first time out. lt;pgt; Two free throws from Jennie Rondel increased SCU's lead to 0, 41-1 inside the two-minute mark. Unfortunately for Sauer and the rest of the Lady Dons, Saint Marys was unimpressed as they seized a 74-66 West Coast Conference victory Thursday night at War Memorial Gym. San Francisco (9-1, -9 WCC) led early, but faltered late as the Gaels (14-11, 6- WCC) completed the season series sweep. lt;pgt; Sauer tied Joy Boyenga (1988-9) for fifth place on the scoring chart, connecting on 7-for-11 from the field in 8 minutes of playing time. Senior center Mary Jane Krueger added her league-leading ninth double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds in minutes. Sophomore guard Joy Hollingsworth added nine. lt;pgt; USF jumped out to an early 6-3 lead, but then the offense stalled while Saint Marys went on a 11-0 run for a 14-6 advantage a the 1: mark and never trailed from there. The Gaels led by as many as 10 points in the first half, before settling for a 33-7 edge at the intermission. lt;pgt; San Francisco fought in the second half, closing to within three or four points on several occasions, but Saint Marys answered with points and defensive stops and twice led by as many as 11 points. lt;pgt; Sophomore guard Evynn Van Burger poured in a a team-high 0 points to lead four Gaels in double-figure scoring. Freshman guard Serena Benavente added 16 points and five assists, while freshman forward Monica Mertle chipped in 11 and freshman guard Lauren Shaughnessy added 10 for Saint Marys. lt;pgt; USF shot at a .46 (6-61) clip, including .37 (3-8) from 3-point distance, while the Gales hit at a .00 (4-48) pace, including an impressive .83 (7-1) mark from long distance, helping offset 1 turnovers.
