Jan. 19 -- Junior guard Tamara McDonald hit a jumper with :07 remaining to break a 49-49 tie with and lift Pepperdine to a 51-49 West Coast Conference (WCC) victory over Portland and extend its winning streak to 10 games Saturday night at the Chiles Center in Portland. The win improved Pepperdine to 13-4 overall and 4-0 in WCC play and maintain a one-game lead over second-place Santa Clara (13-4, 3-1). The Waves and Broncos clash in an important conference game Friday night at Firestone Fieldhouse beginning at 7 p.m. The loss dropped Portland to 9-8 overall and 1-3 in WCC action. The Pilots had an opportunity to tie the game but sophomore forward Khalia O'Rielly-Williams' jumper fell short and the Waves escaped with the victory. Junior guard Damaris Hinojosa scored a team-high 13 points lead the Waves. Pepperdine remained undefeated in conference play despite shooting just 33.3 percent (19-for-57) from the field and committing 21 turnovers. The Waves had a 21-8 rebounding advantage. Portland kept it a close game throughout by committing just eight turnovers. The Pilots shot just 29.9 percent from the field. Senior forward Tami Standish paced a trio of Pilots in double figures as she scored a game-high 16 points and had seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Da'Love Woods tallied 13 points and sophomore forward Khalila Williams totaled 10 points to finish in double figures for Pepperdine.
