lt;bgt;7 LMU 1, UC Santa Barbara 0lt;/bgt;lt;brgt; The 7th-ranked Loyola Marymount University men's soccer team knocked off No. UC Santa Barbara, 1-0, in overtime on Sunday afternoon in front of a crowd of 786 at Sullivan Field. Lion senior Andres Murriagui's goal in the 94th minute keeps LMU's record unblemished at 10-0- overall. The Lions put up 11 shots in the game, five of which came on goal, forcing UCSB goalkeeper Danny Kennedy to make four saves, all in the second half. The Gaucho's defense, especially Kennedy, had their jobs get even tougher when UCSB's Memo Arzate was issued a red card for violent conduct in the 64th minute (64:39). The Gaucho's were forced to play a man down the remainder of the game following the ejection. The Lions had plenty of chances to end things in regulation. Murriagui and fellow senior Arturo Torres both saw a couple of shots miss the net just wide and high. Murriagui and the 7th-ranked Lions needed just over four minutes of extra time before ending the game. Junior Kevin Novak played a ball to Murriagui in front of the net, Murriagui dribbled circles around three Gaucho defenders and beat Kennedy to end the game and UCSB's eight-game winning streak.lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; lt;bgt;USF , Brown 1 lt;/bgt;lt;brgt; Freshman David Martin took a perfect pass from Gabe Sturm and blasted it into the back of the net at the 4:9 mark to give USF a -1 victory over Brown and the championship of the diadora Classic Sunday afternoon at sunny Negoesco Stadium. USF's Gabe Sturm and Josh Hansen shared MVP honors. It was the first career goal for Martin, a freshman from Palmdale, and it was set up as USF made a quick transition. A pass from Josh Hansen found Gabe Sturm behind the defense and as the goalkeeper focused on Sturm's attack, Sturm slid it to Martin who scored from eight yards out. It was USF's first diadora Classic championship since 1997, as the field always features ranked teams.lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; lt;bgt;USD 4, Albany 1lt;/bgt;lt;brgt; Senior striker Ryan Coiner scored two goals and assisted on another to lead San Diego, the nation's eighth-ranked team, to a 4-1 non-league win over Albany on Sunday afternoon at Varsity Field. San Diego (10-) snapped a 1-1 deadlock with 16 seconds remaining in the opening period, as sophomore midfielder Kevin Wilson converted a header off a set play. The Toreros, who rebounded from Friday's -1 loss at Boston University, put the contest away with two goals nearly seven minutes apart midway through the second half. Coiner placed a shot past the goalkeeper after hauling in a long pass from Tyler Conley. The goal was Coiner's second of the game and 11th of the season.lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; lt;bgt; Santa Clara , Harvard 0lt;/bgt;lt;brgt; The Santa Clara University men's soccer squad concluded its participation in the USF/Diadora Classic with a -0 win over Harvard University Sunday afternoon at Negoesco Stadium on the USF campus. The second half belonged to the Broncos, outshooting Harvard (6-3-1) by an 11- margin, including two shots that found the back of the net off senior Jamil Walker's foot. The first came with less than 18 minutes to play as Walker took a free kick from the upper right portion of the circle atop the penalty box and slid it into the upper left corner of the goal for his fifth of the year. Walker followed that up with his sixth goal of the year just five minutes later off a rebounded shot from six yards out. The rebounded shot came off the goalkeeper's hands when Kelechi Igwe's shot was too hot to hold on to. The six goals on the year sets a new career-high for Walker in a season, surpassing his previous high of four that he scored during the first four games of the 000 season. Steve Cronin notched his second shutout of the season, but it was his front four that deserved much of the credit. Sophomore Ryan Cochrane and freshmen Ryan Wolfe, Michael Weiland and Ronnie Magsaysay helped anchor the Bronco defense who was a player short for most of the contest.lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; lt;bgt; 16 Portland 1, Washington 1lt;/bgt;lt;brgt; 16 Portland and Washington slugged it out in a double-overtime 1-1 tie Sunday, closing out non-conference men's soccer action for the Pilots (7-4-1). After Washington (3-3-3) took a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute on a Brett Wiesner goal, Matt Domingo;s first career goal in the 77th minute tied the match at 1-1. In the first overtime, Eric Cronkrite's shot inside the box was cleared off the line by a Washington defender, ending the most serious threat of the two overtimes. Portland outshot the Huskies 13-7 in the second half and overtimes, after Washington had controlled play for the first 4 minutes. Sean Guidice lobbed a ball into the box in the 9th minute, and Wiesner was able to tap the ball under Curtis Spiteri for the Washington goal. Portland ultimately outshot Washington 18-13, and improved to 11-0-3 all-time against the Huskies. The teams have split the last seven meetings - 3-3-1.lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; lt;bgt;Oregon State 4, Saint Mary's lt;/bgt;lt;brgt; The Saint Mary's men's soccer team (-7-3) fell to Oregon State (9-1), 4-, on Sunday, October 6 in a non-conference contest in Corvallis, OR.
