Nov. 19 -- The Portland Pilot men's cross country team finished in seventh place at the NCAA Championships held in Greenville, S.C.

The Pilots were led by senior runner Joe Driscoll who came in 23rd place with a time of 29:59, making him an All-American, the fourth All-American cross country runner in Portland history.

Colorado snuck by Stanford to win the team championship with a score of 90, Stanford had 91 points for second place.

Rounding out the top ten were Arkansas, Northern Arizona, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, the Portland Pilots, Villanova, North Carolina State and Providence.

The course for the Championship was a 10,000 meter course. The temperature in Greenville at race time was 70 degrees.

The Pilots were only beaten by six teams all season, and those were the six teams that finished ahead of them at the NCAA Championships.

The other runners for Portland were senior Eric Kiauka 30:28 who came in 59th, senior Kris Rolin 30:34 came in 65th, junior Ryan Craig 30:35 finished 66, junior Kevin Smith 31:08 came in 115th, and sophomore Jeff Driscoll 32:27 came in 218th.

This was the fifth appearance in the NCAA Championship for the Pilots with their previous best finish being 10th place in 1996.
