Sept. 7-The host University of San Diego Toreros swept today's 00 USD Invitational. The men won for the second straight year, while the women tied for first place with Point Loma Nazarene University. Conditions were clear and breezy, however, the ground was extremely wet from overnight rains.lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; The USD men finished with 36 points and were followed by Pepperdine and Point Loma Nazarene, both in second place with 8 points; Loyola Marymount (9 points), Alliant International (119 points) and Christian Heritage College (179 points). In the women's race, USD and Point Loma each tied for first place with 0 points. Pepperdine finished in third with 9 points and was followed by Cal State San Bernardino (77 points), Loyola Marymount (10 points) and Alliant International (173).lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; Once again the Torero men rode the heels of senior Antonio Lopez (Albuquerque, NM) who won this race for the third straight year. Although he didn't come close to his school record 001 time of 1:36.6, he was still twenty-two seconds ahead of runner-up finisher Ryan Burnett of Point Loma Nazarene. USD junior Steve Trudelle (Portola Valley, CA) placed third with a time of 16:38, while the top-five was rounded out by Pepperdine's Chad Trammell (16:40) and Jason Lewis (16:4, unattached).lt;pgt; lt;Pgt;13; Point Loma's Jessica Howard beat USD's Tiffanie Marley (Lake Elizabeth, CA) to the finish line with a time of 19:38.3; Marley was a close runner-up at 19:40.
