Assistant/Associate Commissioner for External Relations:
The West Coast Conference is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Associate Commissioner for External Relations. This position serves as part of the conference's Senior Management Team and coordinates all aspects of the conference's external efforts. In this position, the branding and marketing of the conference, its member institutions, and conference sports is essential. As a member of the Senior Management Team, this individual will assist with developing the strategic vision for the conference and will be a key player in the implementation of such to assure the growth and development of the West Coast Conference.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Television

  • Manage relationship with existing television partners.
  • Assists with developing strategies for greater television exposure.
  • Oversight of television contractual agreements to ensure appropriate fulfillment and proper execution.
Media Relations
  • Supervision of communications staff.
  • Develop strategies for implementation of new media programs to increase visibility and exposure.
Marketing and Branding
  • Responsible for all conference marketing and branding efforts.
  • Assessment of current marketing program and responsible for development and implementation of new strategic initiatives aligned with organizational objectives.

  • Serve as liaison to WCC Marketing Directors group.
Licensing
  • Support and expand licensing program and partnerships.
  • Oversight of all licensing agreements to ensure terms are being met.
  • Responsible for review and approval process of all licensing applications and product design submissions.
Corporate Sponsorships
  • Assist in the identification and development of prospective corporate sponsors.
  • Serve as liaison to corporate sales rights holder.
Sport Administration
  • Serve as sport administrator for select conference sports.
  • Collaborate with Director of Communications on implementation and management of on-line game exchange program.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Director of Communications on conference scheduling for all six round robin sports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree Required, Master's Preferred.
  • Minimum of six years experience in marketing, branding, media relations or comparable experience in external affairs.
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Demonstrated management experience and proven effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible, fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
  • Demonstrated ability to be part of a highly successful, productive and positive team.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

CHAMPIONSHIPS ASSISTANT
Start date: July 1, 2008 (negotiable)
End date: June 30, 2009
Compensation: Monthly stipend
Work schedule: Regular business hours will be scheduled Monday - Friday. The ability to work occasional nights and weekends, as needed, is also required.

This position reports directly to the Director of Championships. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Championships

  • Planning, marketing and execution of all championship events.
  • Coordinating merchandising and promotions.
  • Event planning.
  • Numerous on-site duties and responsibilities at all league championship events.
  • Assisting in the preparation of annual championship publications/directories.
  • Design flyers, handouts, etc. for championship events.
  • Community service organization and execution.
  • Assist with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

    Administrative Duties

  • Telephone reception.
  • Meeting and conference call coordination.
  • General office and facility functionality (order supplies, copies, mailing, etc.).

    Qualifications:
    Bachelors Degree required. A desire or demonstrated commitment to work in the field of intercollegiate athletics is preferred. Strong organization and communication skills, and knowledge of and comfort with computer software (Mac OS, Microsoft Word and Excel) are required. The ability to work independently and meet deadlines is a must.

    COMMUNICATIONS and MARKETING ASSISTANT

    This position reports directly to the Director of Communications. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

    Communications

  • Preparing annual publications and weekly media releases for conference sports and championship events.
  • Website maintenance.
  • This position will serve as the conference liaison between the NCAA, member institutions, and various media outlets for several conference sports.
  • Assist in a number of special projects, including the preparation and administration of championships in basketball, baseball, cross-country, golf, rowing and tennis.

    Marketing

  • Assist in the implementation of conference-based marketing programs.
  • Assist with sponsorship implementation and fulfillment.

    Administrative Duties

  • Telephone reception.
  • Meeting and conference call coordination.
  • General office and facility functionality (order supplies, copies, mailing, etc.).

    Qualifications:
    Bachelors Degree required. Prior experience in a collegiate sports information setting is highly desirable, as is experience with Macintosh computers, Statcrew and desktop publishing with Adobe InDesign. Internet experience and webpage development is helpful as well. A desire or demonstrated commitment to work in the field of intercollegiate athletics is preferred. Strong organization and communication skills, and knowledge of and comfort with computer software (Mac OS, Microsoft Word and Excel) are required. The ability to work independently and meet deadlines is a must.
