WCC Basketball Tournament
THE WCC MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS HEADS TO SAN DIEGO IN 2008
The West Coast Conference Basketball Tournament heads back to Southern California as the San Diego Toreros play host to the conference's biggest event at the Jenny Craig Pavilion in 2008. For the sixth consecutive season, the men's championship will use an 8-Team/Play-In format, while the women's championship will use the traditional 1 vs. 8 format with no byes for the third straight year. The women will play March 6-9, 2008 and the men will square-off March 7-10, 2008.
The Championship returns to San Diego for the first time five years. The Jenny Craig Pavilion hosted the WCC tournament from 2001 through 2003, the facilities' first three years of existence.
MEN'S FORMAT
Under the format that was adopted in 2003, the #5 through #8 seeds will compete in the opening round to determine who will advance to the next round of the tournament. Waiting for the winners in the quarterfinals will be the #3 and #4 seeds, who will have first round byes. The winners of the quarterfinal match-ups will go head-to-head with the #1 and #2 seeds, who will have byes through the first two rounds of the tournament.
WOMEN'S FORMAT
For the fourth straight year the tournament will use the traditional No. 1 seed vs. No. 8 seed format for the women's championship. All eight WCC schools will play on the first day of the tournament with the No. 1 seed facing the No. 8 seed, the No. 2 seed facing the No. 7 seed, the No. 3 seed facing the No. 6 seed, and the No. 4 seed facing the No. 5 seed. The women will play the first round on March 1, 2007 with a day off on March 2ned. Play will resume with the semifinals on March 3rd and the championship game on March 4th.
EXCITING COLLEGE BASKETBALL ACTION
The WCC's premier event consists of 14 thrilling men's and women's games over a five-day period. The women's event features the WCC Women's Basketball Championship on March 9, 2008, while the entire event culminates with the nationally televised WCC Men's Basketball Championship Game on March 10th. This has traditionally been one of the most entertaining post-season tournaments in all of college basketball as fans and players alike will be treated to the intense and intimate basketball atmosphere of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
A nationally recognized force in intercollegiate athletics, the West Coast Conference consists of Gonzaga University, Loyola Marymount University, Pepperdine University, University of Portland, Saint Mary's College, University of San Diego, University of San Francisco, and Santa Clara University.
