Randy Bennett
Randy Bennett took over as the head men's basketball coach prior to the 2001-02 season and in six years as the head coach at Saint Mary's College, he's brought the excitement back to the program after leading the Gaels to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2005. The at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament marked the fourth in the school's history and first since the 1996-97 campaign.

In his six seasons at Saint Mary's, Bennett has led the Gaels to a 102-93 (.523) overall record while compiling a 46-38 (.547) mark in West Coast Conference action. When Bennett guided the Gaels to their sixth win in 2006-07, Bennett moved into second place in career coaching victories at SMC. His 102 career victories is second all-time, and just eight wins behind James Weaver's school record 110 wins in seven seasons, from 1955-62.

He became just the fourth head coach in school history to lead SMC to the NCAA Tournament when the Gaels garnered a No. 10 seed in 2005. Of the 27 coaches to roam the sidelines at SMC, Bennett ranks second in winning percentage for SMC coaches that have led the Gaels into 100 or more games.

During the past four seasons, Bennett has guided the Gaels to 78 total wins, just under 20 wins per season, and from 2003-06, SMC posted 61 wins, marking the second most wins in a three-year span in the 98 years of the program. The 61 wins is just one victory shy of equaling the most wins in a three-year span in school history. Over the past five seasons, SMC has collected 87 wins, which is the most victories in a five-year stretch in the history of the men's basketball program.

Paul Thomas
Head coach Paul Thomas enters his second season at the helm of the Saint Mary's women's basketball program. In his first year, Thomas immediately implanted his up-tempo style to lead the Gaels to their best West Coast Conference record since the 2001-02 season.

Under the direction of Thomas, Jontelle Smith was named to the All-WCC first-team while Maija Lahde was tabbed honorable mention. Lauren Shaughnessy and Eghosa Obaiza garnered WCC All-Academic honors.

The Gaels scored over 75 points six times, including a 100-91 outburst against Northridge and a 95-73 victory over Toledo. Saint Mary's 68.5 points per game ranked second in the conference. The Gaels ranked in the top three in the WCC in eight different categories. SMC paced the conference in rebounding and was second in blocked shots. Ten different Gaels ranked in the top five in individual categories.

In his first appearance in McKeon Pavilion, Thomas led the Gaels to one of their biggest comebacks in recent memory. The Gaels used a 17-3 run and 48 second half points to upend the visiting Hurricanes in a thrilling 69-68 victory.

In the thick of the conference hunt, Thomas scrapped his usual high-flying offense on the road at San Diego. The Gaels slowed the pace of the game and pulled out a 51-47 victory, handing the Toreros their third conference loss of the season.
