Eddie Sutton
USF Athletics named coaching legend Eddie Sutton as interim head men's basketball coach at the University of San Francisco December 26, 2007. Sutton takes over for Jessie Evans who requested a leave of absence for the remainder of the 2007-08 season.

"Coach Jessie Evans has requested a leave of absence for the remainder of the basketball season," USF Athletic Director Debra Gore-Mann said. "I have approved his request. Eddie Sutton has agreed to serve as Interim Head Coach, effective immediately and for the remainder of the 2007-08 season. I (or someone from the USF athletic administrative staff) will be traveling with the team as much as possible for the immediate future to lend my support to the student-athletes and to assist Interim Coach Sutton in any way I can."

QUOTING INTERIM HEAD COACH SUTTON:
On the challenges of taking over USF mid-season:"I would say it's the toughest challenge that I've ever had. I've had challenges before, but I'm looking forward to meeting the young men and trying to turn the season around."

On pursuing career win No. 800: "It's very important. I had a chance earlier this year to take a Division I job and didn't think I wanted to do it. From a selfish standpoint, it is something I'm excited about. It was a goal I had for myself. I don't think nationally anybody's going to look at it and say, 'Now you won 800 versus 798.' There's just not that much difference."

Tanya Haave
After compiling an outstanding resume as a player and an assistant coach, Tanya Haave entered her first season as a Division I head coach when she was introduced April 28, 2006. Haave, a 2005 inductee into the Tennessee Lady Vol Hall of Fame, brought an impressive resume of success as a collegiate and professional player to the position. After spending four seasons as an assistant coach at Colorado under coaching legend Ceal Barry, Haave served as an assistant coach at Denver in 2005-06.

In 2006-07, Haave's leadership brought a number of exciting moments. The Dons won their first game under Haave on November 17 against Colorado State, topping the Rams, 62 - 51. Under Haave, seventh-seeded USF would defeat No. 2 San Diego in the West Coast Conference first round, 80 - 69. Players, including Lisa Olden and Nykia Peace, saw big improvements under Haave's guidance. Beginning her second season at the Dons helm, Haave is looking to continue on an upward slope towards the top of the West Coast Conference.

Haave is just the seventh head coach in USF Women's Basketball history, taking over for USF Hall-of-Famer Mary Hile-Nepfel, who compiled a 270-267 record in 19 seasons on the Hilltop. Since 1995, the Dons made four postseason appearances including back-to-back-to-back NCAA berths, including a storied run to the Sweet-16 in 1996 - the furthest any West Coast Conference team has advanced in league history. USF last qualified for the postseason in 2002 with a WNIT berth. Haave believes San Francisco can be a force again in a league they once dominated.
