The No. 2 Portland Pilots clinched the West Coast Conference's automatic berth to the NCAA playoffs with a 2-0 win over San Diego Friday night at the Clive Charles Soccer Complex. Six WCC men's soccer teams were in action on Friday, kicking off another crucial weekend of conference play. Loyola Marymount edged Gonzaga, 2-1, while Santa Clara shutout San Francisco, 1-0. In other action, San Diego and Portland played to a 0-0 tie. MORE

As the Fall sports season is coming to a close with one week left in women's soccer, two weeks in men's soccer, three weeks in women's volleyball, and the recently completed WCC cross country championships, the WCC has announced the October Players of the Month.

WCC Live will be back on the air on Tuesday Nov. 3rd beginning at 8pm to continue its four part series previewing the men's and women's basketball seasons as well as feature a recap of this past weekend's WCC cross country championships. The series will feature coaches from across the league as well as prominent student-athletes.

WCC Men's Soccer Weekly Notes
No. 16-ranked San Diego defeated San Francisco 3-1 in its only match last weekend. Saint Mary's competed in two matches, looking to take over San Diego's top spot in the WCC standings. The Gaels defeated Portland 1-0 on the road on Friday but dropped a pivotal match to Gonzaga 5-0 on Sunday, losing their opportunity to claim first place. Portland and Gonzaga are currently third and fourth in the conference, respectively.
